The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a reshuffle involving nine senior police officers, giving fresh assignments to IPS officers Kanthi Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni weeks after their suspensions were revoked. The transfers were ordered with immediate effect under G.O.Rt.No.1829, issued by the General Administration Department on September 20.
Kanthi Rana Tata, who had been awaiting a posting, has been appointed Inspector General of Police in the Directorate of Traffic Management and Road Safety. Vishal Gunni has been posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Training, and given full additional charge as Director of the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy until further orders.
Postings Follow Revocation of Suspensions
The state government revoked the suspensions of Tata and Gunni on September 4, 2026, and reinstated them in service with immediate effect. Both had been under suspension since September 2024 in connection with allegations surrounding the handling of the case involving Mumbai-based actor and model Kadambari Jethwani.
The revocation orders stated that their reinstatement would be without prejudice to the disciplinary and criminal proceedings connected with the matter. The latest reshuffle now gives both officers defined operational postings after they had been awaiting assignment following reinstatement.
New SPs for Markapuram, Palnadu and Polavaram
The government has also filled three district-level SP posts. Pankaj Kumar Meena, who was serving as OSD in Polavaram, has been transferred as Superintendent of Police of Markapuram district. Jagadeesh Adahalli, previously SP in the Chief Minister's Security Group, has been posted as Palnadu SP, while K. Chakravathi, who was serving as SP in the CID, has been appointed Polavaram SP.
The appointments give regular SPs to the newly formed Markapuram and Polavaram districts. The Palnadu SP post had become vacant after B. Krishna Rao went on deputation to Central services.
Other Senior Officers Moved
C.M. Thrivikram Varma, who was serving as Director General of the Special Protection Force, has been posted as Inspector General of Police and Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory. R. Jayalakshmi, previously Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, has been shifted to CID Cyber Crimes as IGP.
B. Raja Kumari has been transferred from APSP Battalions to IGP, Railways, with full additional charge of CID Women Safety. Babujee Attada has moved from Greyhounds to DIG, Technical Services, while retaining full additional charge of DIG, Greyhounds. The government directed the state police leadership to make the required internal arrangements for the transfers.
