Former Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, popularly known as Alla Nani, died on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack. He was 56.
Nani had served as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education in the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government. A senior political figure from Eluru, he later moved from the YSR Congress Party to the Telugu Desam Party.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over Nani's sudden death and offered condolences to his family. TDP working president and Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh also mourned his death, remembering Nani as a leader who stayed away from controversies and maintained cordial relations with others.
From Eluru MLA to Deputy Chief Minister
Nani built much of his political career around the Eluru Assembly constituency. He was elected from Eluru on a Congress ticket in 2004 and 2009 before moving to the YSR Congress Party. He later became a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council in 2017.
He returned to the Assembly from Eluru in the 2019 election on a YSRCP ticket and entered the Jagan government as one of the state's Deputy Chief Ministers. Along with that post, he handled the Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education portfolio until the 2022 cabinet reshuffle.
Nani contested Eluru again in the 2024 Assembly election but was defeated by TDP candidate B Radha Krishnayya. He subsequently left the YSRCP and joined the TDP in February 2025 in the presence of Chandrababu Naidu.

September 15, 2026: Alla Nani dies at the age of 56 after suffering a heart attack, triggering condolences from senior political leaders in Andhra Pradesh.
