Prashanth Neel-presented horror thriller '418' has been postponed from its September 18, 2026 theatrical release, but the latest delay is not because of the Central Board of Film Certification. Mythri Movie Makers has confirmed that the team needs additional time to prepare a wider multi-language release, including a possible Hindi version.
The production house said the decision followed encouraging responses to the trailer, private screenings and feedback from exhibitors in other language markets. Interest from the Hindi exhibition sector prompted the makers to explore releasing the film for Hindi-speaking audiences alongside its South Indian versions.
A new theatrical date has not yet been announced. The makers said they are working on the expanded release plan and will reveal the revised date separately.
What happened with the CBFC?
'418' did face a certification hurdle earlier in its release cycle. Reports in early September said the CBFC raised objections concerning the intensity of the film's horror content, including concerns that it contained too many frightening elements. The filmmakers subsequently approached the Revising Committee as they sought certification.
That issue has since been settled. The CBFC cleared '418' with an 'A' certificate, restricting theatrical viewing to adults, and the makers formally announced the clearance on September 10. Following certification, September 18 had been fixed as the film's new theatrical release date.
The distinction is important because the CBFC issue and the latest postponement are separate developments. Certification had already been completed before Mythri Movie Makers withdrew the September 18 date. The current postponement is tied to plans for a larger theatrical rollout rather than an unresolved censor-board objection.
'418' had originally been scheduled for release on July 31 before its theatrical plans were pushed back. The subsequent certification process became a talking point after reports emerged about objections to the film's horror content.
'418' now being planned for a wider release
Written and directed by debutant Kirtan Nadagouda, a former assistant to Prashanth Neel, '418' is positioned as a straight horror thriller rather than a horror comedy. Prashanth Neel presents the film, while Mythri Movie Makers is backing the project.
The film stars Surya Raj, Charan Lakkaraju, Chaitra J. Achar and Preethi Pagadala in key roles. With the September 18 release cancelled, its next confirmed theatrical date will depend on the completion of the expanded multi-language distribution plan.
